Tortilla calculator
How many tortillas do I need?
Tell us who's eating and whether you're serving flour or corn, and we'll tell you how many tortillas to buy, how many to warm at a time, and how to keep them hot and pliable.
How many tortillas per person?
Plan on about 2–3 flour tortillas per adult for fajitas, or 3–4 corn tortillas since they are smaller and people eat more of them. Kids eat roughly half. Always warm a few extra — tortillas disappear faster than any other part of the meal, and running short mid-fajita-night is the one shortage everyone notices. The calculator adds a buffer for big appetites and for leftovers.
Warm them, or they crack
The single biggest tortilla mistake is serving them cold. Warm flour tortillas until soft and lightly spotted, and corn tortillas until fully pliable, then hold them in a clean towel or an insulated warmer so they stay hot through the meal. For the full method, see our guide to warming tortillas and the comparison of flour vs corn tortillas.
